      Elementary Reading Levels

These levels were adopted when the county public schools began using the “Reading Recovery” reading program and originate from that product; the levels are now tied to promotion standards for grades K, 1 and 2.  (They are not lexile numbers).

      •  Kindergarten:  Levels 1 – 4
      •  First Grade:  Levels 5 – 16
      •  Second Grade:  Levels 17 – 22

To approximate a child’s Accelerated Reader level, take the Wilson County number and estimate the point in the school year when a child would reach that level, then select the corresponding AR book.

For example, if a child reads at a “level 10”, that puts them in the middle of the first-grade range (which spans 5 to 16) so look for AR levels around 1.5.  Remember this is an approximation.
